Cognitive “conscious intellectual activity.” Relevance “relation to the matter at hand.” Merriam Webster Dictionary
For Americans, the US Constitution is a valuable roadmap to legislation and judicial decisions that impact everyone living in the United States of America. Unfortunately, too many are unaware of the meaning let alone the history of this very important document. More importantly, unaware of its relevance to our daily lives.
This is so true when following politics. Reaction and emotion guide far too many, and cloud our judgment because instead of studying an issue we allow MSNBC, CNN, and FOX News to spoon feed their thoughts on issues of the day.
Don’t take the wrong side of an argument just because your opponent has taken the right side.” Baltasar Gracian
Since the Gingrich Revolution during the Clinton Presidency we have seen our politicians divided and irresponsible leaders in our Congress. Tea Party, left leaning Democrats, right leaning Republicans, how about sound judgment from our politicians.
In a private conversation in the White House residence, President Lyndon Johnson a Democrat said to then former Vice President Richard Nixon a Republican, “We politicians are like lawyers who get together for a drink after fighting each other like hell in the courtroom.”
As you read this blog, I encourage you to ask the hard questions. We may have different political views so let’s debate. But at the end of the day let’s do as our politicians of old did, let’s be friends. My view point on social and political issues broadens by listening to other viewpoints I may not have considered. I may not be swayed by your opinion, but at the end of the day, I will know it and respect it by seeking to understand it.
Whether its Trayvon Martin, President Obama’s Healthcare Bill, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the economy or is LeBron worthy to be anointed King James before winning a championship, we look forward to you submitting a blog and hearing your comments. Let’s all be Cognitive and understand the “relevance” of an issue, before we jump on the soap box.
